On this private day, you cross the city through taste, from warm bread at a neighborhood bakery to port wine that has rested for years in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. We wander the Ribeira without rushing, stop where the locals stop and chat with the people who serve, make and age what ends up in your glass. We begin at a neighborhood bakery with a coffee and a pastry still warm from the oven, while we sketch out the day at your pace.
We make our way down the narrow streets to the banks of the Douro, pausing at the tiled facades and the corners the photos usually miss.
We taste cured meats, mountain cheeses and Portuguese tinned fish straight from the counters, with time to ask questions and try it all.
We cross on foot to Gaia along the upper deck, with the river, the rabelo boats and the rooftops of Porto spread out below.
We sit down at a family-run tasca for a proper lunch, with the dish of the day, bread, olives and the house wine.
We step into a historic cellar to see how port wine ages and to taste tawny, ruby and, if you wish, a vintage.
We finish with an unhurried glass on a terrace facing Porto, closing the day with the best light over the Douro.

It starts in Porto. We agree on a central meeting point and the day runs on foot and by local transport, between the Ribeira and the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. Travelers coming from Lisbon usually arrive by train the evening before or early that morning.
